Childcare Tax Credit and Working Tax Credits

There are subsidies available for help for up to 70% of your childcare costs through the childcare element of this scheme. Nine out of ten families now benefit from one or both of these taxes. You must be working 16 hours a week or more to apply. For more information, see the link section of our website.

There are many training opportunities/schemes to help parents return to work. In some cases when attending training courses, all of your childcare fees will be paid. For more information contact your local jobcentreplus or use our link provided in the link section of our website.

It has never been a better time for both parents/carers to go back to work/into education or training. There are many schemes available to either fully fund/part fund childcare. Included in this site are links to the many organisations that will help you find information. The main sources of funding are listed below:-

Nursery Education Grant (Three and Four Year Olds):-

There will be universal free education for all three and four year old children in all LEA areas from September 2004. From the term after your child turns three, you will be entitled to a maximum of £104 per month, which will be deducted from your nursery fees. This is based on a child attending for a minimum of 5 sessions per week. Grants are calculated as follows:-

5 sessions or more: £104 per month

4 sessions: £83.20 per month

3 sessions: £62.40 per month

2 sessions £41.60 per month

All forms are sent directly to the nursery; there is no need for you to contact your LEA. Children who attend state nursery are not entitled to receive this subsidy as the state nursery claim this.

Abacus, as a provider registered to deliver free early education must agree to:-

  • Work towards the Early Learning Goals
  • Identify a setting based Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO)
  • Operate a special educational needs (SEN) policy
  • Involve a qualified teacher
  • Be inspected by Ofsted according to the arrangements it sets out for early years and childcare providers.
